I know this topic is too repetitive, but I couldn't help not writing about it. Yesterday I was in Zamalek at 3.00 pm. I saw a red-head foreigner, who seemed to be in her thirties, walking down the street uncomfortably with fast steps, and then I noticed two Egyptian guys walking behind her and uttering few words that I couldn't actually recognize. The woman was trying to escape from them, and even tried looking to the other people in the street, but of course nobody moved an inch. I was in the Taxi when I saw her taking a a side to pretend to be getting into the pharmacy or looking at its vitrine(display cabinet). It saddened me that she wasn't even wearing any kind of revealing clothes, even if she was, it would still be sad. It saddened me more the fact that there was nothing catchy to look for at the PHARMACY'S Vitrine, I mean, who stop to stare at what the pharmacy is displaying? She did that till the boys kept on walking as she took that side. They really walked away and she continued walking after they were gone.
I am not writing this post to tell the story, and I have no idea what I want to really say. Two years ago, we revolted, sexual harassment doubled and increased rapidly. I don't want to sound so optimistic or pessimistic, but let's be realistic here. I know the revolution failed in a way although we have the power to save it from sinking completely. I will look at the very tiny bright side, which is not too bright but there is a shaft of light. Now we can speak our rights, at least our voices are heard, unlike before 25 Jan. We won't ask for the governments help, it won't start from there. It should start from here, from where you stand, from where you are sitting now, from where you are reading this post; from you. Remove that sellotape on your mouth, it will hurt as you take it off, but it will heal when you are stronger. That's what we need to do, speak out when you say what's wrong, try hard to correct it. MANY people will stand against you but later on, you will find MANY more at your side. All the political events we are going through is blinding many people, but when they see us standing up and fighting, I am sure they are going to join.
Start now and correct what's wrong. I am not saying that this country is going to be "perfect", I am not hopeful, but at least you, me and every man and woman shouldn't remain handcuffed toward the most prevalent issue in our society.
I believe in revolting silently, specially with this issue. Start from wherever you are. Yes you, and you, and you and I. We can.
*At the start, I was aimed to draw this post to women, but then I found myself directing men and women in general. There are many men who don't harass, not every man is a harasser and I am sure they will powerfully help.
